The forthcoming SAMS Convention will take place 30th April to 2nd May 2010 in Greenock. We would like to remind you of the competitions we are running and once again ask for people who wish to enter to put their names forward.
- Harold McMillan Shield presented for the most entertaining 10 minute stage act.
- Max Raskin Cup presented for the most entertaining 10 minute presentation of magic for children.
- The Anne Warlock Trophy is awarded for the most entertaining 10 minute close-up act.
- John Ramsay Rose Bowl is awarded for the most entertaining close-up effect.
The closing date for entries is 30th March.
Continuing our semi-regular profile series, we thought it time to mention that a number of our members have teamed up to form Scottish Magic.
A number of our club members were inspired during a recent lecture to develop a more commercial approach to their marketing efforts. You can see the results and follow our progress at the Scottish Magic website.
Kevin McMahon is organising an International Magic Festival in Edinburgh this summer running from the 7th – 11th July 2010. It is expected that more than 3,000 people will attend events, ranging from a gala show featuring world-class performers to a “magic school” for youngsters. The events will be held in five venues across the city and although the programme is still being developed, we can expect “close-up” masterclasses, competitions and historical talks.

The Northern Magic Circle Annual Convention is to be held on the 27th & 28th March 2010 at Fleetwood Marine Hall in Fleetwood Lancs. There is a great line-up with lectures from Nathan Kranzo (Michigan – great coin worker), Kostya Kimlat form Florida (of the Roadrunner Cull fame), Marc Paul the TV mentalist, John Hotowka a great after dinner speaker and corporate worker. Chris Priest, British Close-up Magic Champion and ‘The Amazing Guy’, Thom Peterson.
There is also a great dealer hall featuring the likes of Paul Gordon, Adrian Harris, Peter Diamond, the Juggling shop, Magic Books by Post, Mapro Magic and a host of others.
The Gala show will be compered by John Hotowka, presenting Stephen Williams Junior World Magic Champion, Comedy Juggler Steve Royle, Thom Peterson, Nathan Kranzo, from TV’s ‘Mind Games’ – Marc Paul, and the UK’s No.1 Ventriloquist, Steve Hewlett and to close, a stunning illusion set from Guy Barrett.

There is a lecture and workshop in Glasgow on Wednesday 10th March hosted by the Scottish Conjurors Association. The lecture is being presented by mentalist Scott Creasy and will begin with a workshop on performing mentalism professionally.
Please note that the venue is the Walton Centre, Southern General Hospital, Glasgow, G51 4TF and will start at 6.00pm for the workshop and 8.00 for the lecture.
