Continuing our semi-regular profile series, we thought it time to mention that a number of our members have teamed up to form Scottish Magic.
A number of our club members were inspired during a recent lecture to develop a more commercial approach to their marketing efforts. You can see the results and follow our progress at the Scottish Magic website.
On Wednesday 11th November our very own President Peter Kinney was invited to judge the Scottish Conjurors Association competition. Here is Pete’s report.
Last Wednesday, I was invited along to the Scottish Conjuror’s Association to judge their club competition. It was a great night and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were five acts on. Three of the acts routines were geared towards family entertainment, very similar to our own Tryst routines. For example; we had needles going through balloons without bursting the balloon and a live rabbit appearing from a large pot. The next act was a card routine, where four Aces disappeared from four separate piles of cards only to reappear together in the final pile. We also nearly saw a ten pound note levitate! I say nearly because the magic just didn’t quick work on that one, but he assured us it usually did work. To be fair, he did manage to make it levitate later on.
The final act was a mentalist. No not Patrick Jayne. He did a couple of very nice mind reading effects were he managed to tell who drew what figure, just from looking at it. His final routine involved members of the audience, who chose certain pages, columns and lines to determine a name of a person in the telephone directory. Then with the help of someone from the audience, he managed to pick up on the information this person was sending o him, to successfully tell the person’s; name, address and telephone number!
On the whole, a great night, with great entertainment from the five acts, and I would like to thank the Scottish Conjurors Association for their kind invitation to judge the competition.

Congratulations to all the participants in last nights Forth Valley Magic Circle Competition. The turnout was exceptional with 8 members performing on the night. The winner of the McDonald Cup was Colin Mackenzie (above being presented with the cup by SAMS president George Colvan). Second place was Geoff Todd and third place was taken by our very own President, Peter Kinney.
Our thanks go to the judges for taking time out to mark the acts. Special thanks must go to SAMS President George Colvan and especially to Janet Colvan who acted as assistant for most of the acts.
Monday night was Scary Magic night at Forth Valley Magic Circle. Our thanks to everyone who made a real effort to present something on the night.
Our thanks also to our Treasurer, Stuart Chalmers who was good enough to take some photographs of the night. We’ve posted them on our flickr account. You can also find the latest picture on our Galley Page.
Just realised that’s Peter Kinney’s picture on the front page again. Quick get some more more news.
We have updated the Membership and Committee page after last night’s Annual General Meeting during which a new committee was elected. Everyone in the club expressed their gratitude to the previous committee for their contribution to the club over the past year. By the end of our AGM meal it was clear that everyone was looking forward to another fantastic year.
Forth Valley Magic Circle member Pete Kinney has kindly submitted a video performance of him participating in the Childrens Entertainers World Championships. Pete is the one with the big mouth. Maybe next year he’ll be the one entering the competition. Come on Pete.
