Prof Ewan Callison’s updated Tenyo lecture
and John Archer – goodness knows what he’s going to pull out of the bag, but it’ll be entertaining anyway!


Plus two dealers; World Magic Shop and Magician’s Cave in attendance and the featured lecturers/performers are expected to bring along effects/notes/dvds for sale.


Non-members – £20.00  for Adults – and juniors under 16 can attend for £15.00.

But you DO need to reserve your tickets for the evening Dinner / Cabaret at £30.00 per person

So that’s £30.00 for a meal and 3 performance spots from 3 very different entertainers – Garry Dunn, Marc Oberon and John Archer.

SAMS Convention 2010


All of us from Forth Valley Magic Circle had a great time at SAMS 2010 and would like to thank everyone who helped organise the event. Special thanks of course go to George and Janet. Also a big thank you to those who represented the club in the competitions, Peter Kinney and Archie Smith. Congratulations must escpecially go to William Williamson who managed to walk away with three prizes for Kilmarnock MC. Here are the results in full:

Perth 60th Anniversary Day of Magic


Perth Magic Circle will be holding a Day of Magic in the Grampian Hotel, Perth on Sunday 23rd May commencing 10.00am. Davenports (The UK’s oldest established magic shop) will be attending and will have a wide selection of magic to tempt us all. Whether it is DVDs, close up, books stage or childrens magic they probably have it so it will be a great opportunity to get some new material.

There are two lecture arranged, one from Roy Davenport and the other from Trevor Lewis…both these will be excellent as each is a master of their craft! To mark the anniversary, Perth City Council have granted a Civic Reception and everyone attending will be invited to this which will precede the Gala Cabaret featuring Colin McLeod, who scored heavily at last years Edinburgh Fringe, Trevor Lewis and Roy Davenport who will present his Grandfathers famous manipulation act.

There will of course, be bar facilities during the day and snacks/meals will also be available if required. The cost for the entire day is £20.00 (Juniors – under age 16 years – £10.00, accompanied by a responsible adult.)

Scottish Association of Magical Societies Convention 2010


This years convention will be held in the Tontine Hotel, Greenock on Friday 30th of April till the Sunday 2nd of May. Dealers will be Adrian Sullivan, David Forrest Full 52 Productions and Jimmy Craig. Confirmed lectures are David Forrest and John Archer. Gala show Brian Jeffrey’s Fly by Nite, David Lees, Clive Moore, John Archer and Guy Barrett.

Sams convention registration desk opens at 6pm on the friday and the convention starts at 7.30 with an opening of the convention with a buffet provided followed by the president’s show and the opening of the dealers.

SAMS Convention Competition News


The forthcoming SAMS Convention will take place 30th April to 2nd May 2010 in Greenock. We would like to remind you of the competitions we are running and once again ask for people who wish to enter to put their names forward.

  • Harold McMillan Shield presented for the most entertaining 10 minute stage act.
  • Max Raskin Cup presented for the most entertaining 10 minute presentation of magic for children.
  • The Anne Warlock Trophy is awarded for the most entertaining 10 minute close-up act.
  • John Ramsay Rose Bowl is awarded for the most entertaining close-up effect.

The closing date for entries is 30th March.

Northern Magic Circle Convention 2010


The Northern Magic Circle Annual Convention is to be held on the 27th & 28th March 2010 at Fleetwood Marine Hall in Fleetwood Lancs. There is a great line-up with lectures from Nathan Kranzo (Michigan – great coin worker), Kostya Kimlat form Florida (of the Roadrunner Cull fame), Marc Paul the TV mentalist, John Hotowka a great after dinner speaker and corporate worker. Chris Priest, British Close-up Magic Champion and ‘The Amazing Guy’, Thom Peterson.

There is also a great dealer hall featuring the likes of Paul Gordon, Adrian Harris, Peter Diamond, the Juggling shop, Magic Books by Post, Mapro Magic and a host of others.

The Gala show will be compered by John Hotowka, presenting Stephen Williams Junior World Magic Champion, Comedy Juggler Steve Royle, Thom Peterson, Nathan Kranzo, from TV’s ‘Mind Games’ – Marc Paul, and the UK’s No.1 Ventriloquist, Steve Hewlett and to close, a stunning illusion set from Guy Barrett.

Dundee Society of Magicians SAMS 2011


Dundee_logoCongratulations to the Dundee Society of Magicians whose proposal was accepted to host the 2011 convention for The Scottish Association of Magicial Societies. SAMS President George Colvan confirmed the appointment of Dundee at a meeting of SAMS earlier this month and noted the amount of work which had been put in preparing the competing bids.

Again, our congratulations go to Dundee, and we look forward to hearing about their progress in delivering the 2011 convention.

Forth Valley Magic Circle Youtube Channel


youtubeWe’ve created a new Youtube channel for presenting Forth Valley Magic Circle Youtube Videos.

We have started by adding an old video from Blackpool 2008. It is of our current Vice President’s wife Laura being hypnotised while unwinding in the Ruskin Bar. A fantastic weekend and a fantastic video.

We will be adding other videos to this channel including excerpts from our Tricks at the Tryst shows.

Paisley One Day Convention

Peter Kinney Wins Max Raskin Cup


Today we are pleased to announce that Forth Valley Magic Circle member Peter Kinney was awarded the Max Raskin Cup. This trophy is awarded at the annual SAMS convention to the best Children’s act. Well done Pete, you’re now an award winning magician.
