Summer nearly over and already we are looking forward to a new season of Magic! The SCA opens its year with a Lecture by well known Card and Coins Man, Craig Petty. Craig will be known to you for a number of marketed effects and a series of very commercial dvds.

We hope to see you on Wednesday, September 1st, 7.30pm, at the Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre, 10 Balcarres Avenue, Kelvinside, Glasgow, G12 0QF. £10 entry fee to visitors.

SAMS Convention 2010

All of us from Forth Valley Magic Circle had a great time at SAMS 2010 and would like to thank everyone who helped organise the event. Special thanks of course go to George and Janet. Also a big thank you to those who represented the club in the competitions, Peter Kinney and Archie Smith. Congratulations must escpecially go to William Williamson who managed to walk away with three prizes for Kilmarnock MC. Here are the results in full:

Scottish Association of Magical Societies Convention 2010

This years convention will be held in the Tontine Hotel, Greenock on Friday 30th of April till the Sunday 2nd of May. Dealers will be Adrian Sullivan, David Forrest Full 52 Productions and Jimmy Craig. Confirmed lectures are David Forrest and John Archer. Gala show Brian Jeffrey’s Fly by Nite, David Lees, Clive Moore, John Archer and Guy Barrett.

Sams convention registration desk opens at 6pm on the friday and the convention starts at 7.30 with an opening of the convention with a buffet provided followed by the president’s show and the opening of the dealers.

Scott Creasey Lecture at The Scottish Conjurors Association

There is a lecture and workshop in Glasgow on Wednesday 10th March hosted by the Scottish Conjurors Association. The lecture is being presented by mentalist Scott Creasy and will begin with a workshop on performing mentalism professionally.

Please note that the venue is the Walton Centre, Southern General Hospital, Glasgow, G51 4TF and will start at 6.00pm for the workshop and 8.00 for the lecture. The workshop has limited spaces and will cost £10. Please contact Scott Cuthbertson scottcmagic@ntlworld.com to reserve a space. The lecture will cost £10 at the door.

Scottish Conjurors Association Competition Report

On Wednesday 11th November our very own President Peter Kinney was invited to judge the Scottish Conjurors Association competition. Here is Pete’s report.

Last Wednesday, I was invited along to the Scottish Conjuror’s Association to judge their club competition. It was a great night and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were five acts on. Three of the acts routines were geared towards family entertainment, very similar to our own Tryst routines. For example; we had needles going through balloons without bursting the balloon and a live rabbit appearing from a large pot. The next act was a card routine, where four Aces disappeared from four separate piles of cards only to reappear together in the final pile. We also nearly saw a ten pound note levitate! I say nearly because the magic just didn’t quick work on that one, but he assured us it usually did work. To be fair, he did manage to make it levitate later on.

The final act was a mentalist. No not Patrick Jayne. He did a couple of very nice mind reading effects were he managed to tell who drew what figure, just from looking at it. His final routine involved members of the audience, who chose certain pages, columns and lines to determine a name of a person in the telephone directory. Then with the help of someone from the audience, he managed to pick up on the information this person was sending o him, to successfully tell the person’s; name, address and telephone number!

On the whole, a great night, with great entertainment from the five acts, and I would like to thank the Scottish Conjurors Association for their kind invitation to judge the competition.

Scottish Conjurors Association Mega Magic Auction

Find a new home for that valued effect you’ve just retired from the act or just buy some more rubbish that’ll never see the light of day.

The Scottish Conjuror’s Association is proud to host the Scottish Mega Magic Auction on Sunday 1st November 2009 at 1.00pm at the Walton Conference Centre, Southern General Hospital, Glasgow, G514TF. Doors open at 12 noon for sellers to register lots and for buyers to view. The auction starts at 1pm with doors closing at 6pm. A £3.00 admission fee includes tea and coffee.

If you are a seller , report between Noon and 13.00 to be given a number. Auctioneers will then attempt to sell what they consider to be the 3 most sellable items from each seller in turn, before returning to seller number one, and continuing in this fashion.

Anything left unsold at 1700 is available for direct negotiation with the individual sellers. Buyers pay cash as each lot is sold. Sellers have to wait until close of auction for payment (-10% commission to SCA) There usually are bargains to be had. Lots of kids show props recently.
