Gary & Ricky are well-known, and popular members of the magic community in Scotland. Full-time professional’s for over 17 years, their work covers the full spectrum: Entertaining children and families through to corporate clients. Their work takes them all over the UK and between them have won numerous awards during their career.

Ricky is Past president of S.A.M.S and Gary was recently admitted to the Magic Circle in London as an A.M.I.M.C. with Silver Star.

Some time ago, Gary created the Pro-Show Magic company and has recently designed and created a unique range of leather props and wallets new to the market. Blackpool 2016 sees them bring out a joint selection of new effects, some of which they have been using for the past 15 years in their shows with great success.

In 2012, Gary & Ricky’s lecture ‘A Mix of Tricks’ was well received at its first full outing and has now stretched as far as down south. The lecture is a mixture of ideas for presentation and patter, with new ideas for old tricks, and of course, they will also be discussing (and demonstrating) some of their new products. This will be a unique opportunity to see them for the first time before the big one in February.Ricky_Bingo

The lecture covers a wide range of magic; Close-Up, Stand-Up and something for family entertainers too, so there should really be something for everyone to take away.

Gary & Ricky are looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones at the FVMC and will be offering great discounts on the range of magic products on the night. Hope to see you there.

Forth Valley Magic Circle Presents a Lecture by Jon Armstrong

Jon ArmstrongForth Valley magic Circle proudly present A Lecture by Jon Armstrong on,

Sunday, 17th November
at The Birds and Bees, Easter Cornton Road, Stirling FK9 5PB,
7.30pm Start, £10 for Non members.

Please note this is a change to our normal lecture venue as we envisage a high turn out.

This will not be just another trick lecture or a dealer show. Jon will not
only teach you some great, original card magic, he will teach you some
sleights and techniques that you may have thought were out of your reach.
One of the things that makes Jon such an in demand performer, is the way he
has developed and integrated his character into his magic. It’s this
synthesis of performance; effect and character that can make ‘tricks’ become
magic. In addition to learning his original card ideas, he will also cover
topics such as learning, performance and character. These ideas are useable
whether you are a full time pro or just do a few tricks for family and

This recent Magic Castle award nominated lecture with cover techniques with
cards but that can be used to enhance all our magic.

This will be illustrated in the following effects:

The Blank Monte (A three card monte routine that takes the sting out of
magician is always right scenario and giving it a truly magical climax by
personalizing it),

Reflexed (The opening of Jon’s stage act at the Magic Castle for years)

Orbs of Power (Follow the Leader in a way laymen will follow and love)

I Scream (A business card routine big in effect and in return on clients)

Out Of This Blah Blah Blah (A more commercial and entertaining Out Of This
World with no sleight of hand)

The Tiny Plunger (Making card tricks into card magic, using new moves and
thinking about the standard ones differently)

And many more, right out of Jon’s current award winning close up act.

Some of the following testimonials give you an idea of the powerful miracles
from his lecture!

“There’s an old saying: ‘If a man fools me once, shame on him. If he fools
me twice, it’s probably Jon Armstrong.’ At least that’s my version.” – Ian
Rowland, Magic Circular

“I Scream You Scream (possibly the best ever trick for getting your business
card into a spectator’s hand – and with a subtle way of making them contact
you afterwards) will make you money!!” – Martin Key, Abra

“A fun evening…flawless technique” – Bob Yelland, Maimi FL

“Dropping an email to say I found your lecture brilliant – it was
informative, interesting and entertaining. In particular, I enjoyed learning
the nuances of certain moves such as your second-deal and gin double.” –
Stephen Dobbs, Manchester

“Overall, Jon very much inspired with the sense that it is possible to make
a living with magic, and still have loads of fun. Oh, and he also showed us
a trick. One of the best tricks I have ever seen. With a prop and materials
I own, yet it totally fooled me. What was it? Well, you had to be there,
really.” – Ian ‘Mindwriter’ Carpenter, UK Magic Week

“Jon certainly kicked butt at Motor City. His performances and lecture were
really great. I believe he’s doing one more lecture, this time in Grand
Rapids MI. After that he’s off to Malaysia to return to his life as a
professional magician. If you’re in the area, don’t miss John’s last lecture
in Grand Rapids. This may be the last chance you have to see him for quite
awhile. Also, he’s making a tremendous deal on his notes and other items.
His work with the Frixion pen alone is worth the price of admission. This is
one of many that I’ll be using.” – Mike Powers, Linking Ring

Jon Armstrong Bio

Jon Armstrong has performed for some of the most prestigious audiences in
over 30 countries worldwide. Growing up in Orlando, Florida, Jon became
fascinated by the magic he saw in the theme parks around him and dreamed of
having his own show. This dream came true when Disney asked him to bring his
act to Epcot and he became the resident magician at Walt Disney World. He
was only 20.

After spending 5 years doing his show at Disney World, Vegas called and Jon
answered, becoming a recurring headliner at Caesar’s Magical Empire. It was
between these runs in Vegas that Jon started doing his tours all over the
world as both a performer and lecturer, teaching others how to add humor and
entertainment to their magic. Also he worked on many films and television
shows such as “The Mentalist” and “Spiderman 3” as a magic consultant and
designer. Walt Disney Imagineering, ITEC Entertainment and Landmark have
come to rely on Jon to help bring magic to all areas of theme park and
theatrical design.

He now lives in Los Angeles and is a frequent performer at the world famous
Magic Castle. His TV appearances as a talk show guest, featured performer or
actor, include shows like “Magic Castle After Dark” on A&E, USA’s “Ready For
The Weekend”, Fox’s “Masters of Illusion.”, NBC’s Today Show and ABC’s
“Bachelorette” He has been featured in trade publications like Magic, The
Linking Ring, MUM and other magic journals worldwide. Stories have been done
on him in The New York Times, LA Magazine and Harpers just to name a few.

In December 2004 Jon appeared on the cover of Genii Magazine in a issue
dedicated to his magic. In April 2007 Jon Armstrong was named Close up
Magician of the Year by The Academy of Magical Arts. He has been nominated
seven times total as of 2012. With 2010 as the first year he has been
nominated for Lecturer of the Year by the AMA. He also serves as the
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Academy of Magical Arts, the
youngest person ever to be elected to this important group.

The Illusionists – Edinburgh, Saturday 28th September

The biggest selling magic show on earth will appear in the UK featuring seven world grand master magicians in The Illusionists: Witness the Impossible.
The Illusionists: Witness the Impossible launched in January 2012 with a sell-out season at Sydney Opera House, reaching an audience of 31,000 in nine days, followed by a Mexico City eight-day season with an audience of 42,000. More recently the show packed out Adelaide Festival Centre and Queensland Performing Arts Centre, and will visit Auckland before a launching world tour from London’s West End. The hand-picked cast of internationally renowned illusionists together create a blockbuster stage show featuring a stunning mix of their most outrageous and unbelievable optical illusions including nail-biting Russian roulette, jaw-dropping acts of levitation, mind-reading, disappearance and escapes. This show sees the magicians take their cue from the showmanship of the great illusionists of the past – such as Houdini – and combine it with contemporary sets, costume design, technology and live band Z, best known as touring band for hip hop legend NaS, to create a spell-binding family-friendly blockbuster.
Creative Producer Simon Painter says the show is a world first, with each of the seven international illusionists the best in their niche and together creating a 21st century stage spectacular that will leave audiences spellbound. “From Dan Sperry’s shock illusions to comedy magician Jeff Hobson to Escapologist Andrew Basso who performs the Houdini inspired underwater escape live on stage, there is no other group of magicians who can deliver
the mind-blowing entertainment that The Illusionists do at every show.
“Kevin James, The Inventor, is the man who created most of the famous illusions and tricks that you’ll see performed anywhere in the world by top magicians, and we have him bringing his favourite illusions to life as part of the show.” Robbie Macrae, Director of THE EDGE Performing Arts Centre says that The Illusionists is a magic show like never before seen in New Zealand and another major stage show for Auckland and the rest of New Zealand to enjoy. “We’re incredibly excited to have secured The Illusionists for a season at The Civic. We haven’t had a blockbuster magic show of this kind in Auckland before and we know that the theatricality and artistry of the show completely astonish our audiences.”
