Scottish Association of Magical Societies
On the 16th December 1951 delegates from Dundee Magic Circle, Edinburgh Institute of Magicians, Kirkcaldy Magic Circle, Kilmarnock Magic Circle, Paisley Magical Society, and Perth Magic Circle all attended the meeting. It was agreed to form an Association of magical clubs, which would be known as S.A.M.S. short for The Scottish Association of Magical Societies.

Congratulations to all the participants in last nights Forth Valley Magic Circle Competition. The turnout was exceptional with 8 members performing on the night. The winner of the McDonald Cup was Colin Mackenzie (above being presented with the cup by SAMS president George Colvan). Second place was Geoff Todd and third place was taken by our very own President, Peter Kinney.
Our thanks go to the judges for taking time out to mark the acts. Special thanks must go to SAMS President George Colvan and especially to Janet Colvan who acted as assistant for most of the acts.
Congratulations to the Dundee Society of Magicians whose proposal was accepted to host the 2011 convention for The Scottish Association of Magicial Societies. SAMS President George Colvan confirmed the appointment of Dundee at a meeting of SAMS earlier this month and noted the amount of work which had been put in preparing the competing bids.
Again, our congratulations go to Dundee, and we look forward to hearing about their progress in delivering the 2011 convention.
Kirkcaldy Magic Circle has a long and rich history starting with it’s formation in 1942. The club name at the time was The Lang Toon Legerdemaniacs and was one of the founding members of the Scottish Association of Magical Societies.
As reported on the Scottish Association of Magical Societies website, Kirkcaldy Magic Circle has been mothballed due to a recent drop in active membership. Those members who continue to be active in magic have moved across to Perth Magic Circle.
Today we are pleased to announce that Forth Valley Magic Circle member Peter Kinney was awarded the Max Raskin Cup. This trophy is awarded at the annual SAMS convention to the best Children’s act. Well done Pete, you’re now an award winning magician.
